Conducting a free ward-wide webinar
Conducting a free ward-wide webinar
To limit our contact with others, last night, my wife and I used Facebook Live on our ward's Facebook page to do a ward-wide indexing webinar. We simply indexed a batch and talked through the entire process.
Here was the setup:
- Computer - needs microphone (but no camera required, because Facebook allows you to show the camera OR the screen, but not both)
- Phone/tablet/second computer - This makes it easier to monitor questions that people ask as they watch live.
Preparation
- Go to your ward Facebook page and tell them you will be doing a live video showing them [whatever the topic is].
- Any additional preparations. In our case, we also identified a good indexing project beforehand - beginner level, with a very low completion percentage, so ward members could do it for a while.
Doing the live video:
- On your computer, go to your ward's Facebook page.
- Right above where you would type a post, click on Live Video.
- Click the needed settings
- Make sure the microphone is working.
- Choose to share your screen. It's usually easier to just share your whole screen.
- Click to Go Live.
- Quickly switch to the page you want to share. NOTE: Once you share, you will see your screen repeated into infinity, don't let it throw you off, just switch to the right window/tab quickly.
- If on your own, explain that you need to get your phone set up to view questions. On your device, go to your ward Facebook page, find your live video and click to watch it. Keep the phone in portrait mode, so you see comments.
- (If needed) Adjust the zoom level on your browser. We were on a very large screen with a high resolution, so we hit ctrl-+, (of command-+ on Mac) to bring it to 150%.
To help people one-on-one, I'd suggest Google Hangouts, Skype, or Zoom.
