Adoption help
My great grandmother, Blanche Evelyn Largent, was born out of wedlock in 1912 in Spokane, Washington. I have found that she was born Evelyn Miller Alread. Her mother (Mabel Carrie Miller) married a different man (James Russel Largent) a year after she was born. They lied about when they got married so that it would appear she was legitimate, and at some point that man adopted her and changed her name. My great grandma didnt know about the adoption until later on in life. I have found her bio-dad's name, J. Edwin Alread, but I can't find adoption records or any birth certificates... Any suggestions on where else to look? I'm stuck.

@jenniferleejohnson I don't think that Washington state birth certificates for 1912 have been digitized so you may need to purchase a copy here.
Evelyn is found in the Washington Birth Register, searchable on FamilySearch and Ancestry which is probably where you found her: Birth date 10 April 1912, #626, Vol. 20. What further information are you looking for?

I am trying to find her bio dad. I have the name of J Edwin Alread but that is all the info I have on him. I have tried to order a birth certificate and can not locate one. I have been on the phone many times with Spokane county vitals and they have been unable to locate any birth certificate.

@jenniferleejohnson The name doesn't come up in searches--even wildcard searches on FamilySearch or Ancestry, as I'm sure you've discovered! I looked in Spokane city directories for 1912 and 1913 and found no Alread surnames. Since you are going by a transcription of a record, keep in mind that the name could actually be something much different. I would guess the surname might be "Allread" or "Allred". I focused on the 1910 census for areas in Washington around Spokane--northern Idaho, or western Montana and found a few "Allread's", but nothing close to an Edwin. Obituaries or other newspaper sites might also provide some clues.

Also, a DNA test might help you find cousins.

After doing research I was able to find only one record that matches your description. I would say that you have a difficult task ahead of you. Here is a link to the record I was able to find. https://www.ancestry.com/discoveryui-content/view/1206365:1209?tid=&pid=&queryId=b482e37c5908bc5f117e398dac95b379&_phsrc=lxW1816&_phstart=successSource
It appears that her parents were married at the time of her birth.
Sorry I have no other sources to offer you.
