John Astrop (9NP9-NCK)
I am trying to learn how to do English Genealogy research. Could I get some direction on how to research John Astrop, please?
Marriage to Mary Leach 1844. It says that he was a widow. I am trying to find birth and another marriage.

I just did a search on John Astrop marriages in Yorkshire for the 1810-1845 period, for which you will see the results at https://www.familysearch.org/search/record/results?q.givenName=john&q.givenName.exact=on&q.marriageLikeDate.from=1810&q.marriageLikeDate.to=1845&q.marriageLikePlace=yorkshire&q.marriageLikePlace.exact=on&q.surname=astrop%2A&q.surname.exact=on
Perhaps one of these events might relate to his first marriage?
In general, you should be able to get somewhere providing you have some further detail about this individual (age, place of birth/residence, etc.) It's around midnight here (the same for you if you're in the UK!) so I'm calling it a night, but please come back with any supplementary questions and I (or another user) will try to help further.
Incidentally, have you seen the Family Tree ID of 9NP9-NCK, which has details of his marriage to Mary Leach attached?

Firstly, sorry about the last paragraph - I was getting rather tired (last night) and did not notice you had quoted that ID in the title of your post!
Using the FreeBMD website I am only able to find an 1857 death for a John Astrop (in Yorkshire, post-1844). The GRO website gives further detail - showing his age at death as 63, meaning he was born around 1794.
I see Mary Leach has been taken to be the individual baptised at Little Horton (near Bradford) in 1787. I wonder if you have verified that the Mary Leach who married John Astrop (in 1844) was definitely still single.
The other useful place to look for clues relating to John's identity is the census. The 1851 census (see https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SPMR-Z9Z?treeref=9NP9-NCK) has what appears to be him, born at Haxey, Lincolnshire and resident in the Pontefract area, but his spouse does not match. I do not have access to the copy of the original document, so it is possible her age has been wrongly shown as 36, instead of 56. If Mary Leach was born in Yorkshire around 1815 the only match found in FamilySearch is for a person baptised 24 May 1816 Bradford to William & Hannah Leach.
If you have their marriage certificate, this would confirm some of this detail, of course - e.g. Mary's age (unless the unhelpful "of full age" - meaning over 21- has been recorded) and whether she was single or a widow.
Please come back to advise of any further information you might have - a copy of that marriage certificate is essential - so I, or someone else, can provide further advice. Checking other websites (e.g. Find My Past) will also probably be necessary. You can access FMP for free at many public libraries, or at a Family History Centre.

The marriage record image is available on Ancestry. As Paul feared, it says "full" for age meaning over 21 (although that cannot always be relied upon). It confirms that Mary was a spinster.
In my view, the suggestion that Mary came from Little Horton must be regarded with scepticism even though the father's name matches. Little Horton is a long way (25 miles) from Pontefract and Leach is fairly common surname.
Mary's age on the 1851 census record Paul offers is definitely 36. A birthplace of Beal, at some 8 ml from Pontefract, is much more plausible. According to Wikipedia, Beal only became a parish in its own right in 1866. Formerly it was part of Kellington.
Looking at FMP, baptisms in Kellington, there is one for Mary Anne Leach but not until 1841 and the father is George. Casting the net wider, looking for baptisms around 1815 with a father William, offers no good results. The best is Mary Lacey in 1813 in Pontefract.
