Where to begin in the U.K.?

I found this community page while looking for information on my family in England. I am a member of Family Search in the U.S. but am not aware of whether or not there is a Family Search U.K. or if it is free as in the U.S. Can anyone direct me as to where to begin in the U.K.?

Hi Esther, Welcome to the England Genealogy Research Group.

This is a group in Community where you can either ask, or answer questions relative to English Genealogy.

FamilySearch is worldwide, and so your membership isn't just for the United States, it stretches everywhere and is free, giving you access to census, church, registration and other documents both in the US, England or other countries, as available. The Community is a part of FamilySearch, and so it too is worldwide, meaning that folk from most countries can post questions, and other contributors from anywhere in the world, can post answers or helpful suggestions.

Before being able to direct you as to where to begin your English research, we would need to know where you are starting from, so a family name (or surname), first name(s), location and dates would be useful. The more information you can supply, the easier it will be to give you the help you might need and steer you in the right direction.
