I would appreciate the translation of the death record year 1825 for Francesca Auletta in Sala Consilina, Salerno, Italy. The record is on Antenati: Morti 1825 (Registro 4768), entry 74, image 79.

Thank you, Debra

    Sala Consilina, 20 Aug 1825 ... Giuseppe Rotunno, 40, tailor, and Paolo Sasto[?], 33, trumpet player, who knew the deceased ... declared that yesterday the 19th at midnight died in her house Donna Francesca Aoletta, age 40, wife of Don Catello Pecori, born in Gragnano (they wrote Castellammare di Stabia but then crossed it out to write Gragnano), profession "gentildonna"=wealthy woman who doesn't have to work, resident in Sala Consilina, daughter of the late Don Gaetano Aoletta and Donna Marianna Buondonna

    @joseph99929,

    The information in the record that Francesca was age 40 and born in Gragnano is very helpful since I don't have a baptism record for her. I can estimate her birth year about 1785 and her parents names are also in the record. Thank you so much for translating the record and adding the meaning of gentildonna. I appreciate your help!

    I have a question about the spelling of Francesca's surname. In her death record, the scribe spelled it Aoletta and in the birth record of her daughter Maria Caroline (this record was translated yesterday), a different scribe spelled it Auletta. Is the reason for the difference because there was no standard spelling in that era? Which spelling of her surname would you suggest that I use?
