Rasmus Ladsen Danish paper trail & DNA
My DNA results as well as my siblings show we are genetically related to Ramus A Nielsen, born 24 Jun 1842, Aarhus, Denmark. His parental line is: Niels Rusmsen (1798-1867); Rasmus Ladsen (1740-1831; 9QVG-G7J); Lads Rasmussen (1704-1763; LHXC-CQ7).
However, my great, great, great great grandfather is Jacob Rasmussen who was married to Anne Hemmingsdatter. They had a son Niels Jacobsen born 24 May 1821, in Praesto. Danish census records show Jacob Rasmussen’s birth year as 1763.
I can’t find any birth records for Jacob Rasmussen. In addition, his birth year of 1763, means he “should” be a child of Rasmus Ladsen and his wife Ann Christensdatter. But, Jacob’s name is not in the Randers census record of 1887.
Any insights or helpful records would very much appreciated.
Kris

Can you explain to me where you got eh information that you a genetically related to Rasmus A Nielsen? What that a connection through Y-DNA testing, Ancestry Through Lines, MyHeritage Theory of Relativity?
I ask because having that information might help us to evaluate the validity of the DNA conclusion and help us to give next steps that will be the most beneficial to you.

Hi KrisNelson1 ,
As I read your question, I wondered a few other things too. I looked at the paternal line of Rasmus Nielsen of Spørring, Århus, Denmark in the FamilyTree on FamilySearch.org. The family seems to be from a few parishes in Randers and Århus counties. Both of those counties are on the Jutland peninsula. Præstø is in southeastern Sjælland which is quit a distance from Jutland. I realize Denmark is a small country and travelling by water was easy, but it seems a stretch to have farmers in the Århus/Randers area somehow related to farmers in Præstø. To further complicate it, there were laws that limited the migration of men before 1788. I'd invite you to sign up for a free consultation with specialists from the Family History Library. I think it would be easier to discuss the research in records along with DNA results to sort this out. You can sign up for free consultations at https://go.oncehub.com/ResearchStrategySession.

Hello Savannah and Morris, Thank you for responding to my question. First, I’ll answer Savannah’s DNA question. My brother and I tested with FamilyTree DNA. Our test results both show Hans Nielsen as a distant related 3-5th cousin-see screen shots. I used Hans’ family tree, in addition to Niels Jacobsen’s father as Jacob Rasmussen, then assuming Jacob’s father’s first name was Rasmus…maybe he was Rasmus Nielsen. But, I have been unsuccessful in finding Danish records that support Hans Nielsen’s family tree or that Jacob Rasmussen is related to a person on his tree. In addition I uploaded my brother’s Block Matches. Maybe I’d be better off researching Jens Roland?
I’ll follow up on Morris’ suggestion for a free consultation with Specialists at the Family History Library .
Again, thank you for your review and comments. Kris

Hello, Thank you for your comments and suggestions. To answer the DNA question: my brother and I both tested with familytreeDNA. Hans Nielsen is a match for both of us, as a 3-5 cousin (see screen shot). Hans’ family tree has Niels Rasmussen as an ancestor from about the 1750, and his father is Rasmus Nielsen (see screen shot). Assuming Jacob Rasmussen’s father’s first name was Rasmus, a thought Ramus Nielsen might be his father. But, I haven’t found any Danish records to prove their relationship or to support Hans’ family tree.
I will definitely follow up with the Research Strategy. Thanks again! Kris
