Death at Sea (Borgny Marie Mathiesen): Ship's Passenger List & Parish Death Record
Borgny Mathiesen, DOB: 19 Dec 1908, Holmestrand, Norway. She was my grandmother's younger sister. I had heard she died of TB, but until recently had no solid information of any kind. I got this obit a couple of months ago, which shed light on when/where she died. It appears she sailed on the "Bergensfjord" from New York to Bergen. Here in the USA I haven't been able to find this sailing's passenger list which I hope might show if she was traveling back home with a family member, and might give some info about her death. Can someone in Norway locate the arrival passenger list for this sailing? I was told this ship sailed on 16 May 1930 NYC, arrived Bergen on 25 May 1930, but was told nothing of how they knew this. What I do know is she joined her father, Ludvig Hagbart Mathiesen (DOB 11 Nov 1873, Holmestrand), in NY, 22 Apr 1929; he became a U.S. citizen in 1926. Why she didn't stay, is a mystery, with several family members already living in the USA. I cannot locate her parish death record online and cannot find an email address for the Holmestrand church (not sure why); I would appreciate any assistance with finding it so I can contact them directly.
Thank you all for your help, ideas/suggestions about all this.
Leah

Hi Ulrich,
You are a man of many talents. I was surprised to hear from you with this inquiry, but I really appreciate it, nonetheless. I have sent a message to the church in Holmestrand, and with any luck I will first hear back from them, and second, they will have answers!
Sincerely,
Leah
