Immigrent name changes
i am researching a family for a friend. Their ancestors are Edward Carl Lorenson G8JP-J7R and Jennie C Swanson G8JP-YZ4. I could not find any Swedish records for them. They were Lutherans, so I expect there are many good records. I suspect they changed their names on immigration. My own Swedish ancestors did change their names when they came over.
How do i find their records from Sweden? How do I find if they were using different names while there? Is there a way to search the records without knowing the name?
Thanks

I believe I may have found Edward Carl. You will have to have access to MyHeritage to view some of these sources, but there is a very good possibility that this is him.
There is a Carl Lorenson (Lorentzen) in the Ellis Island and Other New York Passenger lists, 1820-1957 available through MyHeritage. That record is here: https://www.myheritage.com/research/record-10512-59023045/carl-lorentzen-in-ellis-island-other-new-york-passenger-lists#fullscreen. On line 16, we have Carl Lorentzen (Lorenson is almost certainly the same name), aged 20, whose last residence is Mansarp (Månsarp, Sweden), arriving in New York (I presume since there is no Port named in the document) on the ship S.S. Lucania. The ship departed from Liverpool (England) on 25 March 1899. He is headed to New Britain (not far from New Haven), Connecticut and names "C Johanson in New Britain" as a friend. The person named just above Carl in the record is a Per Anderson, who is also from Mansarp and is also traveling to New Britain, Connecticut to visit "C Johanson, a friend". The two men are obviously traveling together. If you don't have access to MyHeritage, and because this record is crucial to showing that we have the correct person, I will attach an image of the record. Unfortunately, the image is not very good quality and is difficult to read when enlarged!
Looking at the Move-out records in Månsarp, we find Carl Edv(ard) Lorentsson and Per Johan Andersson leaving Månsarp (Jönköping, Sweden) on 13 March 1899 and going to "N. Amerika". You can see that record here (lines 2 and 3): https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/80008196_00018#?c=&m=&s=&cv=17&xywh=2926%2C229%2C3257%2C1749. The move-out record gives Carl Edvard's birth as 25 June 1878 and he is in the household records on page 207.
Page 207 in the household records give his birth place as Dalstorp in Älvsborg county (Elfsb. L. in the record), Sweden. This household record also reports him leaving for "N. Amerika" on 13 March 1899. The household record is here: https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/80008180_00213#?c=&m=&s=&cv=212&xywh=-72%2C-82%2C7264%2C3737.
The Dalstrop parish, Älvsborg, birth records have his birth on 25 June 1878 here (entry 0, between 11 and 13): https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/A0019802_00046#?c=&m=&s=&cv=45&xywh=-36%2C129%2C5930%2C3116. This birth record gives his birth date as 25 June 1878 and christening date as 27 June 1878. He is illegitimate and his mother is Ida Wilhelmine Carlsdotter. The father is "reported to be" Loren Swensson who is a farmhand in Mulseryd parish.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to locate any information about Jennie C. Swanson. More information needs to be uncovered about her in the U.S. to find her place of origin in Sweden.

Thank you
For some strange reason, I found many of the records you mentioned over on Family Search. Correctly indexed. But the search would not return the records. i searched by the other names you gave, and I found the records.
thanks
