Database Problems
The "Norway Church Books, 1815-1930" database, which is massive, was recently released on FamilySearch. Do any of the moderators for this group have any connections to the people in charge of post-processing for databases and can gently encourage them to fix the problems that were introduced when the database was converted from the Digitalarkivet's format? I reported errors with converting place names in the census records elsewhere on these community boards and got a reply that there is a huge backlog of such errors and it may be along time before anything gets fixed. Today I ran across a problem with dates in the Church Books database. It would be really nice if someone here could encourage to right people and get these problems a higher priority. It is such a nice data set with such broad coverage, that is is really a shame to have to stress to anyone that uses it that you cannot trust the dates and places in the search results but have to immediately find the record on the Digitalarkivet site and see the correct information. It's one thing to have occasional indexing errors. It's another to have wide swaths of the database completely wrong.
Here is a date problem I ran across today: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:68Q4-7ZZ5?q.fatherGivenName=Bernt&q.fatherSurname=kristoffersen&q.motherGivenName=petra&q.motherSurname=andersdatter&f.recordCountry=Norway&f.collectionId=1467014&f.collectionId=1468080&f.collectionId=4237104&count=50&offset=0&m.defaultFacets=on&m.queryRequireDefault=on&m.facetNestCollectionInCategory=on
It's pretty obvious that the database came from Digitalarkivet without birth years. When these were added, the wrong century was used.
