Land Abstract Index Books in Canadian Archives?
Does anyone know if Ontario land abstract index books are available in a Canadian archives? With FHL's still closed (these digitized microfilms are "locked") I hope to find an alternative source for them. Thank you,
Bonnie

Have you tried Library and Archives Canada/Discover the Collection/Land Records? https://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/land/Pages/land-records.aspx

May I suggest 2 sources for land abstract index books for Ontario. the first is the online Ontario Land Registry site, at this website:
Homepage - Ontario Land Registry Access (onland.ca)
click on the words "Historical Books" in the upper right corner of the page. The Research Guides for this website which may be of help are 'Finding Land Registration Records Guide 231', and 'Ontario Land Records Index Research Guide 205'. Both of these are PDFs at the website.
Second is the FamilySearch site itself, at the top of the page top menu, click on 'Search', then in the drop down click on 'Images'. Then type in the name of the county and Ontario, Canada, and click 'search'. A number of records will be listed, and you may find that for that county the Land Records are listed. These may include images from the Abstract books. You will want to identify the parcel of land you are searching for. You may be able to obtain the description of the land, by concession and lot number, by using the 1878 Ontario Atlases by Belden and Co.. The Atlases also have the names of the owners of the parcels of the land as of the date of the creation of the Atlas.
Hope this is of some help.
