What is the OFFICIAL policy (i.e. written from Church HQ, FH Department, etc.) on Monday night FHC u
Handbook 2 is very specific about Church buildings not being open on Monday evenings. There seems to be no wiggle room on that.
However, I've read unofficial statements that FHCs can be open on Monday evenings for family groups (basically a FHE for a family in the FHC), and even been told that by our Area T&FH Consultant as a "policy" statement. I'm all in favor of that. And I'm also aware that the large FamilySearch Centers are open on Monday evenings as well (at least until 8pm at the one I just checked with). Clearly they would not be operating on Monday evenings, staffed by set-apart missionaries, if it was not authorized. So that would seem to be a precedent in favor of FHCs also operating under the same policy.
Is anyone aware of an official policy statement (not somebody's best guess, or personal belief) that says we can be open by appointment for families on Monday evenings, despite what the Handbook (2) says? I'd like to clear up the questions in my own stake, and perhaps this will help others as well. My wife and I are retired and can adjust our schedules fairly easily, and we're willing to go in on Monday evenings for a family by appointment (and would LOVE to!). (The FHC is inside of the Stake Center, if that makes any difference, but it has its own outside door.)
Thanks -- Chris

I know this isn't the answer you want. I'm not able to give you an official answer.
Yo should reach out to your area TFHCs on this one!

@Chris Schmink The Family History Center Operations Guide (your official handbook for running a family history center) has this to say on page 18: "Working with local priesthood leaders, determine the days and hours of center operation. Centers may be open on Sundays for a family history class. Members may use the center during other hours that do not conflict with regular Sunday meetings. Centers should not be open on Monday evenings, except for a family activity approved by local priesthood leaders. You can establish separate hours for member use only. However, do not advertise member-only hours to the general public."
Here is how to find the guide: go to churchofjesuschrist.org/fhcdirector and click the Opeartions Guide link.

Even though the Guide needs updating from 2015 in some areas, it's still in print and considered official, so that's what I needed. I missed that little needle in the haystack. It just points out the need to continually be re-reading handbooks, etc., to stay current and on track. 😎 Thanks for the find!

As a former Family History Center Director, I would add that consideration needs to be given to those who would staff the center and their family circumstances before considering opening on Monday evening for those of us whose centers are not staffed by Family History missionaries.
