I am trying to find a marriage record for my 2x great grandparents and if possible how/when my 2x gr
Their names are William (Wilhelm) John Brandenberger (1843-1918; believed to have come to USA in 1864 on the ship iowa into NY) and Anna Maria (May or Mary - went by Mary a lot in US) Gross (1850-1885). They were both born in (Eichstettan?) Baden, Germany and died in Chicago, Illinois. Family history says they lived near each other and that is how they met (not sure if this was in Germany or Illinois) and that Anna came from a wealthy family who disowned her for marrying William. I am hoping you can help me find the answers to my two questions. Thank you.

According to Meyers Gazetteer https://www.meyersgaz.org/place/10413110 there's a market place called Eichstetten (notice spelling) in the Kreis (county) of Freiburg in the kingdom (state) of Baden in Germany.
Civil records should be kept there locally, but what religion were your ancestors? Protestant, most likely Lutheran; or Catholic, or Jewish? If Protestant or Jewish, they are most likely kept in Eichstetten. If Catholic, the records are kept in nearby Botzingen.
In the FamilySearch Catalog under "Germany, Baden, Eichstetten" you will find the Protestant records are found here from 1644-1961: https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/169428?availability=Family History Library. There are also two sets of Jewish records.
For the Catholic records under "Germany, Baden, Botzingen" there are two Catholic Church records from 1600 on: https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/247608?availability=Family History Library and also: https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/166945?availability=Family History Library.
Wow! Lots of possible records. If you need help understanding Germany or how to research the German records I suggest you take your question to the @Germany Genealogy Research
Good luck!

Thank you for your detailed response. They are listed under evangelisch so I will check out the protestant site you mentioned.
I am told that William and Anna married in Illinois though so I am looking for help in finding their marriage record there.
I am at a loss as to how to find out when/how Anna Maria/Mary came to the US. I have searched extensively through free sites with no success.
