Hello Family Community, I have been researching the historical 1927 Mississippi whereby the American Red Cross set up relief tents in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Oral family history recounts the 1927 Mississippi. However, I can not find a Red Cross Manifest.
Any ideal if such a relief manifest exists. I have searched the America Red Cross website but unable to find such list. thanks for any assistance

A google search brought up a lot of historical information about the Vicksburg Flood of 1927.
You might try calling the Red Cross number and asking to speak with someone about historical records associated with floods. Susan Watson is an archivist that works for the Red Cross. She might be a good resource person for you to try to contact. Perhaps, you can be transferred to her if you call:
Main Phone Number: 1 800 RED CROSS ( 1-800-733-2767)
National Headquarters Staff Directory: 202-303-5214

Please contact them and find out if they have any history that will help you. They often do not have a lot of personal information about all of the people involved with this event.
palzetta, I would love to know if this information proves helpful to you.

I placed a call to the Red Cross on the day that I first answered. It took almost a week for the return call, but they seemed very willing to help search for information. I am eager to find out whether they will have the information that you are seeking.

Good Morning Carolyn, thanks for the update. On Wednesday, I sent an E-mail to the Red Cross and I am sharing the content of my Email. I will keep you updated on any replies.
Thanks again for your assistance.
To The Historical Archive Department Custodian:
I am researching my family genealogy history who was impacted by the 1927 Mississippi Flood. The family lived within the flood impact area of Vicksburg, Mississippi. I came across a photo that of a tent village for the flood victims. The attached Photo is courtesy of MDAH. Below are a few questions that I am hoping you may be of assistance:
1. Are there Red Cross manifest records that tracked families and name of plantations they were living on during that historical flood?
2. Are there any flood victims narratives that maybe in your archives? Red Cross Volunteers Journals?
3. Was the Vicksburg, Mississippi Tent Village only for resident of Vicksburg or did it include any area impacted by the flood?
4. Were there other Flood Tent Village? If so, what towns?
5. What were the resources for tracking births, deaths, and illness within the tent village?
6. What were the resources for Education, Health and sanitation issues?
7. Did the Red Cross provide all the tent equipment or was it a military operation?
8. Was the day to day operation such as meals, by Red Cross Volunteers?
9. How long did the tent village exist and how was the residents relocated? Example: Did residents relocate voluntarily or did the Government relocate Families? If the Government was involved in the relocation process, please provide agency designated with that task.
The answers to the above questions will assist me greatly in generating a background history for my family during their survivor of the 1927 flood. As of now, I only have a tiny bit of oral history narrative about their survivor of the 1927 flood.
