Should I use my biological father's last name or my legal last name at birth?
When looking at some of the statistics, my legal last name at birth is incorrect because my biological last name is so different. I do not show the information from the man whose last name I was given at birth since he left my mother when I was 2. I never knew my biological father but found my biological family through DNA matching. I prefer to use my biological last name for statistics, but I know that's incorrect legally. I'm stumped at how to handle this. Thanks Lawana Mills (legal last name at birth) (biological name is Fervier) Puderer

The choice is yours ...
.
Remember:
.
In "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'; as, you are (currently) "Living", NO other User/Patron can see, either, YOU or the name you chose - neither can they "Search" for you in "Family Tree". You will NOT be seen until you pass away; and, hopefully, YOUR 'Status' is changed from "Living" to "Deceased".
.
Here is a "Knowledge Articles" in 'FamilySearch' for you to ponder:
.
How should I enter names in Family Tree?
.
But ...
That said ...
.
Again, the choice is yours ...
.
I hope this helps.

ps: Whichever, 'Family Name' / 'Surname' that you chose to be recorded in your "Vitals"; then, make certain that you add/include the OTHER 'Family Name' / 'Surname' as an "Alternate Name" in the "Other Information' Section.
.
pps: Plus, include GOOD "Reason Statements" under BOTH of those "Names"; so that, future Generations know what was going on, once you have passed away.

Enter all of your names.
Names added to the additional information section are indexed and searchable.
I just wish that all names were displayed together on the screen. Hopefully something FS will change.

Any information a person adds to their own profile in FS will probably never be seen by others unless login credentials are shared with interested family, right?
After a FS user dies, living users will change their private versions of the deceased users profile but they can't make the deceased person's private profile public.

I agree, it would make researching a person easier if all the names, i.e., marriage, were shown. It would also be nice if there was some way to let people know someone had other children since the only children that show on the tree are the ones for the preferred parents. My case is very complicated so I don't know how it would be done. The man my mother was married to when two of my maternal sisters were born and myself is not the father of any of us and each of us have a different father. My mother was married to a man for my younger sister but that isn't her father either. I have a brother that was given up for adoption but I don't know him or his father. My biological father has 3 children that are my half siblings. What a mess huh? So if there's no one to change a living person to a deceased person their information is hidden forever?
