Example of Temple Names Done on Excel
I just used Excel to create a page where I can record the information on ordinances done that come in those pesky messages. I haven't perfected the process (in my eyes) but this is far better than collecting those messages.
The big problem is you have to copy and paste the data from the messages into Word or Note Pad so you can place commas between each part of the data and erase those big dark dots. I save the file with the data to my desktop. I then go to Excel and under Data chose From Text/CSV. Select the doc with the information and add it to the spread sheet. Excel will format the sheet and every thing.
The one thing I want to do to improve this version is to add a comma between given names and surnames so there is a surname column.

Try this. Insert a new column between Name and PID. Paste this formula in cell B2 and fill it down.
=MID(A2&", "&A2,FIND(" ",A2,FIND(" ",A2)+COUNTIF(A2,"* * *"))+1,LEN(A2)+1)
This may not be exactly what you are looking for but it will give you the surname first, followed by a comma followed by the given and middle name. You will then be able to sort by surname.

This is very good. What prompted you to make this?

I served as a missionary in the Temple records department (Data Quality) for years and know from the employees that once we went to submitting through Family Tree there really is no backup system other than the temple cards. There has been - ever since submissions from Tree began - two weak links in having Tree temple records be accurate. One is the possibility of recording failures - you know cards not being scanned into the system. It is thrilling to see the new process for scanning cards twice going into effect. This should remove almost all of the issues of that kind. There is a second problem though - this is due to open edit in Tree and many users who don't really know what they are doing, it isn't uncommon for a record in Tree to go through many changes - through merges and people editing the names and dates to create a totally new person. Sometimes these changes make the person totally unrecognizable and thus you can't really reconstruct your original person from the record. At this point your person's ordinances become lost. Also if multiple merges are done to a record and the resulting person morphs into someone else, you can't always restore the original person with their correct ordinances. With those kinds of problems remaining we need a way to "restore" ordinances to a person.
You can't just make a case and say "I know this person's work is done - please go find them." Sorry, they just can't do that. You need to say So-and-So (ID ....) was baptized on (date) in the (Temple) - please restore this information to his record. Currently - to replace the cards which are soon not going to be returned - you are receiving notices through FS Messages of ordinances that are completed. This messaging system also reports all ordinances done on Temple Shared reservations of your's too. That message file could grow huge if you do many submissions. So to avoid having this large list to look through when you need to verify that work was done for someone, I suggest you move the info from the messages to an Excel spread sheet and then delete the messages. To me this is a much better way to manage a record of your temple work activity.

@RBDavies RBDavies - Thanks - I just chose to do a non-technical fix - add one more comma (between given names and surnames) and got the same result. Thanks for the technical formula though. Someone who reads this is going to appreciate this.

I hadn't heard that they were going to discontinue returning temple cards. That was my insurance- keeping the cards.
I have had to scan the card a couple of times and sent the scan to the temple department when ordinances have gone missing for various reasons.
Th they have restored the ordinances.
Guess I will need a system too.

To keep up the old system - you will have to going forward - scan the card before you use it and manually enter the date(s) the ordinance(s) get done.
The nice thing with the new system is they are providing us with the Ords and dates for shared names!

The Temple Dept. is currently testing out the discontinuing returning temple cards in the Monticello, Utah, Oakland, Calif, and the 4 temples in Utah County. But get ready who knows when the rest of the temples do the same!
