On Dca [Dominica, Latin for Sunday] 2nd p[ost] Epihany [which in 1742 is 14 January] were Jens Knudsen and his wife publicly absolved/forgiven, whereas/since they for 2 years had lived mostly of theft; ? [word is cut off] in the parsonage (had had both served[?]) and other place[s] stolen(?); and yet with branded conscience sought the altar's sacrament, ? came into God's house, so(?) I first of all/in particular discussed concerning robbing oneself of one's soul [and of] God's mercy at lack of penitence, which, however, astounds ? unto repentance: topic Isaiah 33: verse 1: Woe to thee that spoilest [thievest], and [yet] thou wast not spoiled [stolen from]; thou [that] dealest treacherously, [yet] they dealt not treacherously with thee.
