How often is AI Research Assistant refreshed? I just made a change to Family Tree, and the chat doesn't seem to know about it?
It currently takes some time to refresh the data used by the AI Research Assistant. Please check back in an hour or so, and it should be able to chat about your recent changes. We're working on having the assistant recognize your updates more quickly.
Why do so many of my questions get responses that say they are not genealogical?
For now, try rephrasing your question. Sometimes the AI gets confused about the question you are asking. We're working on broadening its scope so it can answer more types of questions. Right now, the assistant is best at answering questions about a person.
The AI Research Assistant sometimes gives wrong answers based on an irrelevant source. What can I do?
We plan on adding a feature that will let you tell the AI Research Assistant that it has included incorrect data.
My friend doesn't see the AI Research Assistant on FamilySearch Labs. Why not?
At the moment, AI Research Assistant is available for English-speaking users in the US and Canada. Check FamilySearch Labs regularly to watch for its expansion into new languages and locations.
Does the AI Research Assistant find answers in FamilySearch help resources?
No, the assistant finds answers on the web, not from FamilySearch help content. We have a different experiment on FamilySearch Labs called Ask A Help Chatbot that finds answers from the FamilySearch Help Center, wiki and our other resources. We intend to integrate our AI help services in the future.
Can I tell the AI Research Assistant to search a specific collection, website, or other source?
No, it does a general search based on information from the person page and what you entered in the chat. If you want to see what sources the assistant used, click the All Sources option in the chat response. We hope to let you make more specific search requests in the future.
It seems like the AI Research Assistant shows only information already on the person page?
While the AI Research Assistant often finds new information about people, sometimes it does not. Future improvements may help you find new information about the person, so come back and try using the assistant regularly.
How can I ask the AI Research Assistant questions about a person in Family Tree?
When you are on the person page, open the AI Research Assistant to chat about the person. It will search the web to find information for you to evaluate.
