I would greatly appreciate some help to deterimine the city from which my ancestors emigrated from Germany. The ship manifest shows a city that I cannot understand. But, as there seems to be issues with this message board I have had trouble posting a copy of the manifest. But, thanks to the group tech support, the image is now posted in a previouos message dated Aug 5. So, I know this may be difficult, but I would be most grateful if you could please look at the immage in my Aug 5 post and help me know what the city of their departure is. Thanks very much. Rick

I read "Bihrstein, Baÿern" or "Behrstein, Baÿern". "Bayern" = Bavaria.

I cannot find either "Birhstein" or "Behrstein" in Meyers Gazetteer.

Keep in mind that the person filling out the manifest wrote what he/she heard — so this spelling may be incorrect.

Here is a link to Meyers Gazetteer with all the places in Germany which begin with a "B" and end with "stein":

Immediately below the heading it says "Filter results by region". Click on the downward pointing arrow in the box and you will get a drop-down menu. Select "Bayern" and this will list all the places in Bavaria which begin with "B" and end with "stein". Perhaps you'll be able to figure out the name from this list.
