How to pinpoint comune?
I'm trying to find records of my GGGM and her family in Italy.
I've found a wealth of information about them in the States, including newspaper clippings. When I try to trace them back to Italy, though, I get stuck. Her marriage doc says she was born in Torino, but so far none of my searching in the province has yielded anything that could plausibly be her or her parents.
Does anyone have any advice on how I can narrow the search or even find out what comune she/they were from? I don't mind digging some, but 300+ comuni seems a bit daunting.
For anyone who wants to take a look, we're looking at:
- Frances Poggio: G79M-BDC
Parents:
- Domenico (sp?) Poggio: GTNG-PGK
- Maria Visconti: GTNP-MZM

Yeah, you have a hard road because the immigration record doesn't say where they were from. And Visconti and Poggio are incredibly common names in Torino province. And most of the Torino records can't be searched just by entering a name; I think it's only Torino city records that are indexed - the rest have to be searched by browsing the record images.
If she had any relatives who came to the US a bit later (say after 1895) you might find an immigration manifest with a specific town.
