Is this 'Ein Pänniger' and if so, what would it mean?

I'm reading this as 'Ein Pänniger' or maybe Pärmiger as the occupation or post of a baptismal witness from a 1726 Alsace birth record, but can't match it to a German word: any suggestions? Thanks!

Because the definite article "der" precedes it, I believe that "Ein" and the following word belong together. It could be Einspänniger. According to Grimm's dictionary (new edition) it means: "simple servant on horseback (as opposed to foot servant), messenger on horseback, town servant".
