HI Meg,
these three records are of remarkably different handwriting quality. The second is by far the easiest to read. This is how I would tackle this problem (and you will have it again and again, so I will tell you my plan of attack). First, I would write down what I think I see in each record. Then, I would go to the names database--I told you about this the other day and this is a great time for you to practice it.- Netherlands Surname database. I would plug in my names and see what I come up with. The good thing about this database its that is gives alternative spellings and a distribution map. I see Paradijs or Parasijs or something similar (and I am not going to tell you which it is. It certainly looks more like one than the other. If I don't find what I think it is, I just google the name to see if there are people out there with this name. (In this case, there will be, I checked).
I hope you are not upset that I am not simply telling you the name. I am not brushing you off; I just think it is very important for you to know how to solve this problem that you will repeatedly encounter (and others who might read this thread, too!)

BTW, I switched the link to the names site to go directly to the English interface instead of Dutch.

Thanks, Fritz. I should have remembered your previous suggestion. I did see the “Para” part of the name but then foundered. I’ll let you know how I make out! Meg

Meg,
I'm relieved that you are OK with what I suggested to you and were not offended.
Please do keep me informed how you make out; I will be very interested to see what you come up with!

In the second one it looks like Parasijs. I never heard that surname before, but when I googled it, other people with that surname popped up.

My Latin is practically non existent, so I can't compare many letters!

The name is Paresijs.... sometimes evolved to Parisis.

Didn't have much luck with the surname database but a basic Google search yielded Paresijs.

No, you didn't, but you know how to use it now. In the second document, the name is clearly Parasijs, not Paresijs, as it is in the others. Dutch is replete with spelling variations in names. Keep that variation in mind when you are doing your research.
Has this been a good exercise for you? I hope so.
Please keep the questions coming.

Fritz, we can have as well Parasijs and Paresijs in Belgium; both are valid.
Often misspelled.

Adir,
Oh, I am sure. I don't think anything would surprise me! 😄
