Melville Charles BAILLIE 1880 Oct 16. Died in Kamloops BC 1969
Are there any Baiilies in Nova Scotia who are related to my grandfather. His father was John Baillie B.1846. D.1914. Mother Jane Melville B.1838 D.1929. I am trying to find out what his trade was in NS. He worked in Merritt BC as Blacksmith starting in 1904. He never spoke about his heritage and limited about his nuclear family. My mother Olive knew very little about him. Thanks. George Copley

I am not a Baillie from Nova Scotia but I was able to find your grandfather and his family. His father John Baille was a farmer, at least in the 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911 census. The 1901 census states Melville Charles was a "farmer's son" (as were his brothers) for occupation. So blacksmithing must have been something new he took up after he left home (at a guess).
There are a number of family trees on ancestry.com, I believe including yours, that have information on the extended family going back to Sutherlandshire, Scotland, and extended family coming forward.
