Ward Temple and Family History survey

Years ago, my old ward sent an email asking member several questions to find out where they needed help with their Family History. Questions such as:

Do you need help navigating FamilySearch?

Do you need help completing your 4 generation chart?

Do you need help locating certain ancestors?

I can't locate that survey. :-(

** Have others used a survey to begin the process of getting people involved in Temple & FH work?

It gave us info on whether have a beginning class on FamilySearch, or contacting members to set up appointments to meet with them.

I found a few ward surveys on line, googling: ward family history interest survey. I found one for Silvercrest Ward and Liberty 2nd ward. You can check those out. Here are links: Silvercrest Ward Family History Survey (google.com) L2-Family-Search-Questionnaire.pdf (l2ward.com)

My personal experience is that to change the paradigm and get some involvement or useful information, you need to reach out one on one. You can offer a family history experience, or simply ask ward members (individually): what would really make a difference in helping you get more involved in family history? (or something like that) or other open ended questions, focusing on where they are.

Maybe even individually sitting down with people and asking them the questions you stated above would be useful. The key thing is to do something right away after getting that information (act on it).

Giving a survey implies something is going to change, and often (in the large sense) nothing does, so I'm not sure surveys are the best way to gather actionable data.

One-on-one personalized experiences have been an amazing tool - even people whose families have done a great deal have found/been guided to amazing, touching things. You have to prayerfully prepare, but that has been the special factor for me.

Thanks so much for the links! I really like the Silvercrest ward survey. My thinking is to contact those members that show an interest. In years past, I've held FamilySearch training sessions where people can learn by seeing how to navigate FamilySearch and all the wonderful things that are available. I like knowing exactly what people are interested in. This survey would give us that information and those on the FH Committee can focus on the areas where they feel most skilled.
