I am a FH consultant and am trying to help a Chinese descent member start his family tree.
His parents came from Zhong-shan, China in 1975. He does not speak or read Cantonese but his father only speaks Cantonese and his mother speaks both. He says that he cannot get his family's birth, marriage, or death dates because the Chinese calendar changes each year. Is this true? How do you work around it?

If he knows the lunar/Chinese calendar dates, there's a website that can convert the dates to Western calendar dates.
here's the link: http://sinocal.sinica.edu.tw/
The website is in Chinese, so if he needs help let me know by posting the chinese dates here and I can help convert them for him.
Another link to try: http://www.mandarintools.com/calendar.html
This one is in English
Also when you input the Chinese dates on FamilySearch, it will automatically change it to Western dates for you. Make sure you are using Chinese characters to input the information, by chosing Chinese as your choice of language.

Thank you for responding. I'm going to let him know about this and then will get back to you. He doesn't know how to speak or read Cantonese. So we will need your help. I really appreciate it.
