How and where do I apply for the Capps Slave manifest copies?
chris1952 sent you a message
I did a 20-minute research meeting with Family Search last month. At that time I was walked back from the present to a stopping point for Black race Capps to our possible slave owner with the same last name of Capps. I was told that the Capps family was large, only Three households could afford and held slaves. That I need to secure slave manifest copies to determine which Capps household may of owned my past relatives.
Question: How and where do I apply for the Capps Slave manifest copies? Will that say from where the slave originated from? Recent heritage tests show a notable lineage percentage to Nigeria. Last Question, is where can I find a professional geologist that can help me research at a reasonable price?

I'll see what I can find out and get back to you. I will open a conversation here with chris1952.
Hi. Sister Wedgeworth asked me to look into this for you. Before I dig into it, I need a bit more information. If you could answer the questions below I will get on it and see what I can find.
- Where did the Capps family live and when did they live there? I need to start the search with a review of census records.
- Do you know the names of any of your slave ancestors? If there are records in the Freedman's Bureau they will be listed under their names.
- Do you know the names of any of the Capps family members who owned your slave ancestors?
- Is your tree on FamilySearch? What is the person ID for one or more of the Capps in your line? This will help me identify what is already known so I can identify the information gaps that need to be filled in.
Once I hear from you regarding these details, I will start looking for whatever records I can find. Thanks and I am looking forward to working with you on this.

Mr. Wessell is a great researcher and will not charge you for the information he finds. I would say that he would be a good place to continue your research.
