Thomaz Kloss
Hello, I am in a dead end about my great-grandfather Thomas Kloss born in Poland in December 1881. I am looking for the mass location. Being your family: Father: Albert Kloss Mother: Mary Kloss Brothers: Anastazia Joseph Anna joseph can you help me? They immigrated to Brazil before 1900.

Hi I cannot find any close match with the data you provided in Polish databases. However these databases are not very comprehensive, so chances to find him there are very low. The name Kloss sounds German, it occurs in Poland but is not common, so I also checked possible original spellings if this was Polish name like Kłoss, Kłos, Kłoś, Kłus, Kłuś.
Is there any chance there exist a Brazilian document from immigration or such which would list his residence or birthplace in Poland - however misspelled. Or maybe you remember some family custom - these were quite often local.
Name Kłos is very widespread in Poland. The name spelled Kłoss is rare, possibly associated with Rypin county in Kujawy-Pomorze region. Kloss is rare and maybe associated with Lubliniec in Silesia or Mrągowo in Warmia-Mazury. However these current distributions can be very misleading. You can use this tool to see the map http://nlp.actaforte.pl:8080/Nomina/Ndistr?nazwisko=Kloss&join=on&rel=on
If you cannot find any more clues I suggest DNA test, people in Poland do not test much (mostly due to historical trauma) but their relatives in the USA test a lot. It is possible to find a close match in the USA like a 3rd cousin level and work out the originating town for the US relatives.

Hi Tomasz,
Thank you for Help!
Recently I found out that the surname upon arriving in Brazil was "Klosinski", the family would have the following names:
- Wojciech (Father)
- Marianna (Mother)
- Joseph
- Josepha
- Anna
- Anastasia
- Thomasz (My Great Grandpa)
They arrived in Brazil in 1891 on a steamer called Kromprinz Friedrich Wilhelm, leaving in Bremen.
They were registered as Russians when they arrived, but we know that at this time Poland was under Russian rule.
Any clues where I might find information?
