At first, I thought it could the time of the service, but that didn't make sense.

So, what is under the date of the burial?

Hello Martha,

It is the time of the burial.

It says: Vorm. 1/2 9 = Vormittags 1/2 9 = in the morning at half before nine = in the morning at 8:30 am.

So the burial took place on 23 December 1883 at 8:30 am.
