Simple name I cannot transcribe...
I have come across this feminine name several times and I just cannot make out the letters. Here is an example from a marriage record for Johann Friedr. Engel and [??] Jürgens.
Please help.
Falsehe... Felsehe... Talsehe... Telsehe... ???

Searching through even older records (late 1600s), I have come across more clearly written examples...
- Telse
- Telsche
So, I guess it is simply a name I had not come across before in my research.

The name "Telse" or "Telsche" is of Frisian origin. At least today, it is extremly rare. On the Internet I found different explanations for the name:
1. Telse is a North German short form of Elisabeth (Else), for the origin of the initial 'T' there are two theories. The first says that the T is a remnant of St. Else.
2.The second theory assumes that unmarried women used to be declared as neuter and that the 'T' comes from the preceding article 'dat' (dat Else).
3.Telse, also Telsche, is the female name of Tell or Till. The ending .sche means "belonging to". Today one designates thereby pejoratively women with their surname: Müller - Müllersche

@Ulrich Neitzel ... Thanks for that insight! The examples I've come across are from the Süderstapel parish records.
