Finding a Missing Child.
How do I find a missing child.
The 1911 census of Ireland shows that John and Sarah Collopy had 10 children. Five living children and five had died.
We know about four of the five children who died.
Mary, John, Angela and Richard Joseph.
The twins died very young, Angela died and was buried in Malta when she was about two. Her twin brother died in Limerick before the family went to Malta.
How can I find the missing child? I do not know where the child was born or where the child died. Ireland, Malta or at sea. We do have a family story about a family member being buried at sea. Does anyone have any idea where I can start looking for information?
Many thanks.

If the child was born in Ireland then the birth SHOULD be recorded on the civil records section of Irish Genealogy.
Be warned though that not every birth turns up for various reasons. Not many but sometimes. The results can also be compared against church records if the family church is known. As for births or deaths at sea the following may be of use

Thank you very much. I will have to see what I might be able to unearth with the maritime records. The problem is we only know there was another child. There is no indication of where or when concerning the birth or death and we have no idea whether the chid was a boy or a girl. I will keep trying though as I feel this is important.

Can the birth be "guestimated" by comparing the ages of the other children and seeing a likely "gap" in the births?
If yes do the locations of the births of surviving children indicate a likely birth place ie two were born in Dublin and theres a 5 year gap?
If it can be tied to Ireland then its down to perusing the likely parish records.
Keep trying - the record is out there somewhere. 😉😉

Thank you, that is what I am going to have to do. I need to set aside some specific time for that project and then hopefully a trip to Ireland and the Family History centre in Limerick. They were very helpful last time we were there.
Once again thank you for your help it is very much appreciated.
