Standard Place Finder - Interface for suggesting Additions does not work well for many situations
This is a suggestion to make improvements in the Interface at the Place Finder, but perhaps this is the place to make the specific suggestions. I'll review what is going on with suggestions here. Perhaps just a link to this Group from the Place Finder is all that is needed!
It would be nice if there were a more general option for pointing out problems in the Place database. Every time I've hit something that really should be added or fixed, it never made it through the automated interface.
I'll give a recent "for example."
Rock Cemetery is just north of Duke, Jackson County, Oklahoma. It is variously considered to be in Duke, or in Duke Township. Up until the creation of the state of Oklahoma from the territory of Oklahoma in 1907, this was located in Greer County. At that time Jackson County was created and it incorporated the cemetery, the town of Duke, and the township of Duke. (there is another Rock Cemetery up in Greer, in Granite Township, not too far North of the Jackson County cemetery)
The standard place finder includes the Dukes and the cemetery as located in Jackson County, but while Jackson should not read "Oklahoma Territory" it does. Jackson County only existed during statehood. Both of these places were in Greer County during the period that Oklahoma was a Territory. So you are forced to finagle a way to enter the full place, while getting the standardized place to read Duke, Jackson, Oklahoma, United States. That is as close as you can come to locating this cemetery,
The most accurate way for this to be is Rock Cemetery, Duke Township, Jackson, Oklahoma, United States, which existed from 1907 to the present.
There is no way to communicate this sort of information via the standard interface.
Most of the time when I find a problem in Place Finder, it is similar to this and does not involve adding something known to Google Maps at a specific set of coordinates.
