Attention Norwegian Researchers that love old maps!
Maybe this is old news, but I just stumbled across it today and thought it was so neat I have to share it.
Many of you probably already know that the Norwegian Kartverket has a collection of old maps at:
https://kartverket.no/om-kartverket/historie/historiske-kart
What I didn't know and just stumbled across tonight was that Kartverket has an option to put those old maps on top of today’s map. You access it after having found an old map, such as this one:
https://www.kartverket.no/om-kartverket/historie/historiske-kart/soketreff/mitt-kart?mapId=146
Move down the page to find "Sjå kartet stadfesta. “ Click on that link to get a page like this:
You can use the slider in the upper right to adjust the opacity of the old map. You can also zoom in to easily read the map. This can really be helpful in finding where old farms that are no longer on the current map were located. First find the farm on the old map then decrease the opacity until you can see the more clearly drawn features such as roads, current villages, and lakes on the current map to get a better idea of the location more easily than trying to view the two maps side by side.
