Is this the end of the road?
This the first time I'm using this website and I’m not quite sure if this is where I need to be with my question, but here goes.
I have been trying to gather my family history for a few decades, but now I seemed to have come to the end of one road and that road is my grandfather, Gaspare Marchese. Gaspare was born on February 12, 1871 in the town of Santa Margherita di Belice in the Agrigento region of Sicily, Italy. I have been able to located his birth record and have been able to translate most of it, the link is below. In translating the record I’ve discovered some disappointing information.
The record states that Maria, the midwife, reported the birth of my grandfather. The record makes no mention of the baby’s father and his mother did not want to be named. Furthermore, the record doesn’t say anything about who raised the boy. On the third line above the signature the record does indicate that there are two registrations or logs.
My questions are where can I find additional information on my grandfather’s birth and childhood and what is that second log. I tried looking for a baptism record but have been unsuccessful.
Have I reached a dead end or is there more road for me to travel?
Thank you for taking the time to read my message and for any help or suggestion you might have.
Joe

This looks like a difficult roadblock to overcome....
However, there may be a thiny hope.
The record you provided the link for, is a copy, kept at the Court of Sciacca.
This means it's "frozen" in time and does not get any update after it reaches the court, usually at the beginning of the next year - in this case it was transmitted to the Court on jan 15, 1872.
There must be an original, kept at the Comune di Santa Margherita, where subsequent events should normally be added as margin notes.
Those typically include:
- adoption
- later recognition by one or both of the biological parents
- marriage
- death
You can write an email to the Comune di Santa Margherita asking for "una copia integrale dell' atto di nascita", providing all key data (including act number: 56) and attaching a copy of your ID (passport or other).
Here are the contacts:
Ufficio Anagrafe
Responsabile: Caterina Mangiaracina
Tel. 0925.30217
anagrafe@comune.santamargheritadibelice.ag.it
Let me know how it goes.
Good luck.
