KNOW SOMEONE TO SEARCH MILITARY RECORDS AT KEW?
VOLUNTEER OR PROFESSIONAL.
1811 BIRTH OF JOSEPH BRESHER IN SPAIN
New Member from Arizona
Joseph's military record lists his birth as 1811, San Cristobal de la Cuesta, Spain. Joseph's father was likely serving in the British military during the Peninsula War. Field reports of Regimental births are not otherwise available for that period. I would like to contact someone (professional or volunteer) who has access to them at Kew. Of the many military units one might first look into the 34th and 60th Regiments
Here is what I know.
On May 27, 1830 Joseph joined the 60th Regiment of Foot and in a long career had many foreign posts. His own son, John, also served in the 60th Regiment so military may be a family tradition.
One possible father - George Brasher;
A George Brasher (Sept 22, 1783) born in Wiltshire served in the 34th Regiment
A Feb 15, 1808 marriage of a George Bresher & Sophia Woodall in Madras, Ft St George. The handwritten record of the marriage states George was in the 34th Regiment. Find my past /transcript?id=BL%2FBIND%2FM%F6385%2F1 I have a paper copy of the file opened by Phil Dunn in SLC. I do not have access to it myself.
An 1816 marriage of George Brasher & Esther Cordingly in Vellore, Madras, India... George a widower in the 34th.
It is possible that George & his first wife Sophia were parents of Joseph in 1811. Records from the 34th Regiment may have that information. I read that its 2nd battalion served in the Peninsula War and the 1st in India. Perhaps George served in each battalion from time to time.
I am seeking someone who might do the research. Professional or volunteer. The Kew website refers to private professionals – but I cannot open their list.

You may already have this; but, just in case ...
.
Quick search of the "National Archives of the United Kingdom" ...
.
Searched: https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/results/r?_q=JOSEPH+BRESHER
Resulting in: https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C8773198
.
Copies (ie. Images) of those Records are available on "FindMyPast.co.uk" [ FindMyPast.com ].
.
.
Those Records ONLY appear to relate to the Payment of an Army Pension, to him.
.
As I said ...
Just in case ...

Good Luck.

Brett..Thank you for the response.. As you surmised I have these records... and they lead me to think Joseph's father was in the military in 1811... I would like to search the Kew archives myself - but it is not likely. I tried to contact one professional but there was no reply... so I thought to make a general appeal. I am a novice in Britinsh research... my heritage is Nowegian. Their records are very good and available on the net.
The US southwest has been in a serious drought for years and 2020 more so.. Sunshine 12 months and lots of summer heat.
