How to index unfinished attachments?
I am not certain how to formulate my question nor look up possible answers. I noticed that in my family there are a lot of unfinished attachments especially in census. I am interested in helping; but, the information posted that should help me are hard for me to understand. I don't even know how to obtain a batch code. i.e. 1940 census for Ward 7 DeSoto Parish page 10 of 44 is my Rambin family. This appears in my to do list. How do I even start? I work best with a step by step instructions such as 1. go to the unfinished census; 2.? this is where I get stuck.

Hello Denise,
Is this an Indexing question?
Or is it a Census in a person in your FamilyTree that is not completely sourced?
Thank you.

This is how I do it.
- In "Recommended Tasks" list, click on an individuals name which has the blue icon to it's right.
- Click "Person".
- Under "Research Help", click on the persons name again for the record you wish to attach eg. Census, 1940.
- This opens up a new Tab. You can easily switch between the 2 tabs if needed.
- Click on "Review and Attach".
- Compare the Record / Image on the left with the information on the right.
- If you believe it is the same person, go ahead and click "add" or "Compare" (it might show either option) to relevant info. Then "Attach".
- This can be done for all family members on the same record if these options also appear on the same screen.
- When finished attaching source to each person, click "Return to Family tree".
- The record will now be added into the "Sources" section for each person.
- Close the first tab.

Another perspective ...
.
There is some confusion with regard to the 'terminology' in your 'Question'.
.
We DO NOT "Index" the "Unfinished Attachments".
.
We, either, "Dismiss"; or, "Attach", the "Unfinished Attachments".
.
The "Indexing" has ALREADY been DONE for the "Unfinished Attachments".
.
Those "Unfinished Attachments" appear in the "Sources" 'Tab; of an individual/person.
.
They ONLY appear if the "Source" has NOT also been attached with individuals/persons who are POSSIBLY (but, not necessarily) associated with the individual/person whose "Source" 'Tab' you are looking at.
.
IF, the "Source" is appropriate; THEN, you certainly can attached the "Source" to those with which is NOT attached.
.
Plus ...
.
IF, you have "Attached" the "Source" to all those on the "Record", that it is appropriate; THEN, you can "Dismiss" the "Source" from the individual/person whose "Source" 'Tab' you are looking at.
.
Whereas ...
.
IF, the "Source" is NOT appropriate, to ANY others on the "Record"; THEN, you can just "Dismiss" the "Source" from the individual/person whose "Source" 'Tab' you are looking at.
.
Now ...
That said ...
.
Please be aware that you DO NOT have to "Attached" the "Unfinished Attachments" to individuals/persons of the "Sources" that are NOT related to your Ancestors/Relatives (eg. Servant; Boarder; Visitor; ETC; Etc; etc).
.
You certainly CAN "Attached" the "Unfinished Attachments" to individuals/persons of the "Sources" that are NOT related to your Ancestors/Relatives (eg. Servant; Boarder; Visitor; ETC; Etc; etc) if you desire; but, to be honest, most of us have enough "Work" to do with our OWN "Ancestral" Lines, rather than add "Unconnected" individuals/persons to "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
.
Here is a "Knowledge Article" in 'FamilySearch':
.
How do I handle unfinished attachments in Family Tree?
.
I hope this helps.
