I need help in researching birth/baptism, church records in Bungay, Suffolk, England.
Apparently they are not online or they have a "key" and are locked. Is there any other way to research records in Bungay? From what I understand the only way is to go to the familysearch center in Utah? Are there any other options?

Short Answer(s): 'Yes'; and, there is another option ...
.
As the "Family History Library" (FHL) of the Church, in "Temple Square" in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA is still currently TEMPORALITY "Closed" (to the Public) due to the "COVID-19" Pandemic ...
.
And ...
.
IF, the "Family History Centres" of the Church (or, "Affiliate" Libraries) nearest you are still TEMPORARILY "Closed" due to the "COVID-19" Pandemic ...
.
Or, you just cannot get to a "Family History Centre" of the Church (or, "Affiliate" Library) ...
.
[ As some of the "Family History Centres" of the Church (or, "Affiliate" Libraries), around the World, have "Reopened" ... ]
.
THEN, can I humbly suggest that you consider trying the following ...
.
You could try one of the FREE 'On-Line' Consultations through the "Family History Library" (FHL) of the Church in, "Temple Square", Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.
.
Here is some links were you can access/book one of those Consultations ...
.
Engage with the Family History Library Online
https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Engage_with_the_Family_History_Library_Online
.
.
Family History Library Online Consultations
https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Family_History_Library_Online_Consultations
.
.
I have seen/heard some good positive 'Feedback' from those who have used the service.
.
But ...
That said ...
.
Please be aware that you CANNOT be provided with a actual "Image" of that Record; but, you may be able to get (or, confirm) the information/details/data that you desire.
.
'FamilySearch' may also be able to suggest where you can get a copy of the Record, other than through 'FamilySearch'; but, also at some expense, directly from the Record "Custodian"; or, through an external "Commercial" Website (eg. "Ancestry_com"; "MyHeritage_com"; ETC; Etc; etc ... ).
.
Good Luck.
.
And, here is a 'FamilySearch' "Blog" Article on the FREE 'On-Line' Consultations through the FHC ...

.
I hope this helps.

I, too, have a particular interest in research of ancestors who lived in the county of Suffolk. Unfortunately, I have found these records far more difficult to examine than those of any other county in England where my ancestors lived. The Suffolk Record Office seems to be very reluctant to allow images to be displayed on external websites, though I believe some are available for download (for a fee) on their own website.
I am a member of the Society of Genealogists (here in London) and whilst I can view the many microfilms of Suffolk parish records in their possession, I have to sign an undertaking that I will not take copies of any of the entries / pages. This obviously relates to the Suffolk Record Office wanting people to apply to / pay it for the images for which they hold the rights of publication.
I have been fortunate in being able to travel to their record offices from my London home, but that is all but impossible at the moment, so research of Suffolk records (including obtaining copies of PR entries) is extremely difficult at present - and hard enough at the best of times!

The Suffolk Family History Society, many years ago sold parish records on cd (no longer available)
I have several of these, including for Bungay Trinity
They currently sell updated versions - but for each "District" (each covering 20+ parishes). These can be searched by entire district/parish/surname/Childs Name/Fathers name/Mothers name etc. cost is about £15 plus postage each. They contain more information than that found in other sources e.g. Church Name, Entry No. Notes etc
They are available from https://suffolkfhs.co.uk/shop/
You will need to know which district a given parish is in
So see this link https://www.ukbmd.org.uk/reg/sfk.html or Google it
I am happy to answer any questions

Bungay (pronounced Bungy) is in the Wangford district of Suffolk and sold on a cd together with the neighbouring smaller district of South Elmham......This is a great purchase working out at well under £1 per parish and overall less than the cost of Petrol for a single journey. This is only for the baptisms 1837-1900. Other Suffolk districts have an earlier pre 1837 version as well.

I went to the The Suffolk Record Office website and I even chatted with someone. Unfortunately the records I need to check can only be seen in person. I'm not even positive if the person/family lived and had the business in Bungay or the outskirts of Bungay. It was advertised in the Ipswitch news papers as being in Bungay. I'm not familiar yet with all the towns/cities/parishes, etc. in England. Also, I'm finding that the records may not even go back as far as I need. I'm researching the family from the year 1766- 1773, 1788-1791, also 1804, his death.
Thank you so much for all your help and suggestions.
Best wishes,
Patti

Thank you Alan for this info. I will check it out today. Like I said above, I'm not sure if I will find any records available for the years that I need. Most of what I have found so far is mid to late 1800's and I need mid to late 1700's.
I will keep searching. Maybe someday FamilySearch will unlock the records they do have available.
Best wishes,
Patti

Bungay Trinity parish records on my ancient SFHS cd are for 1813-1900, and include Baptisms, Marriages and Burials
They are in what I call "unprotected Adobe Acrobat Document format", and can thus be copied and pasted into a WORD document and then searched using WORD facilities.

Besides the records available at the Suffolk County Historical Society, I also found many on FindMyPast. Some did not have images, but were indexed. I noticed some of the non conformist records had images. Is there anyone in particular you are looking for?

I have checked into FindmyPast, but it's a bit too expensive for me right now. I do have Ancestry and myHeritage, but I have not found what I need there.
I am looking for information on the children of:
Thomas Miller, b 14 Aug 1731 in Norwich, England. He was a well known bookseller and antiquities in Bungay, England.
I have found info on him in Wikipedia, Chalmer's General Biographical Dictionary (also found in this book was his brother Edward Miller and his son William Richard Beckford Miller), Dictionary of National Biography, Ancestry. He died I believe in June 25, 1804 (found obituary in newspaper).
He was married to a Sarah Kingsbury (2nd wife, he was a widower, no other kids with his first wife, Ann Scarlett I believe), 1741-1773, from Bungay. I know they had 4 children, one son and three daughters. Found son, but nothing on daughters.
According to a book about the Clan MacLean, "Hector MacLean married the daughter of Mr Miller of Bungay, Suffolk". They married 11 September 1787 in St Martin's in the Fields, London, England. I found a "married" announcement in a newspaper in London for the marriage, on 24 September 1787. It said, "Lately, at St Martin's in the Fields, Mr MacLean, jeweler, of Castle-street, Leicester-Square, to Miss Miller, daughter of Thomas Miller of Bungay, Suffolk." One of the witnesses for the marriage was "William Miller", I believe that was her brother.
There is absolutely no info on their daughters and I need to find information on them like names, dates, etc. to confirm. For me this is enough confirmation, but for others it may not be. The MacLean/Miller are my connection. Other trees have Ann Miller as the daughter of John Miller and Ann Calladine, but that is wrong. I feel it in my gut that Thomas Miller is the right one, but I can't prove it 100%, only 90%😉 😏.
Was that too much info? Sorry, LOL!
Best wishes,
Patti

Can you send me your email? I found Thomas Miller's baptism, two marriages, death, first wife's death, (and a daughter with her), the baptisms of 5 children he had with the second wife Sarah, and the marriage of Ann to Hector. I also found the firstborn son of Ann and Hector. He had 1 son and four daughters with Sarah. Two daughters, both named Sarah, died young. I found a few possibilities for the daughter Elizabeth, but am not certain which records pertain to her. She either died, or was married in 1805. But I can not ascertain for sure, as it's such a common name, and no parents are listed. And the marriage, like Ann's is not in Bungay. I have copied all baptism, marriage, death records and have them ready in an email! I have attached the burial record in FindaGrave for the first daughter Ann, and the two Sarahs, Thomas and both wives are in that cemetery. I hope this helps you on your way with the Miller family of Norwich and Bungay! Kathy

Please take a look at my website, ogindex.org. I checked Bungay and found 89 data sets covering all record types. You can click the headings to sort the list of results to filter for Births, etc. See the full list here: https://ogindex.org/search?country=England&county=Suffolk&town=Bungay
You can view 10, 25, 50 or 100 records on a page so if you change that to 100 (top left of list), you will see the full results. Lots of Births/Christening records from 1558-1900. Two resources on Findmypast look hopeful. Suffolk Baptism Index 1538-1911 if you have access to that site. If not, look for the Free items listed on the ogindex results. Hope this helps you.
