How to locate an individual among descendants?
Is it possible to locate a specific individual - or last name - within the part of the FS tree containing the descendants of another individual?
To make a short story long: Someone tagged my third-great-grandfather Elisha Brown Hathaway (KVP1-MT1) in this biography of a Revolutionary War veteran: https://www.familysearch.org/photos/artifacts/11988653?cid=mem_copy
Except, there is no mention of any Hathaways anywhere in the biography. And some well-meaning person tagged a grand total of 149 people "in" the biography, which is to say they were probably connected with the Shaffer family through descendancy or marriage in some way. I checked my relationship with him through View My Relationship, and it shows him as the husband of my cousin nine times removed, but not through my Hathaway line.
I asked the person who uploaded the memory what John Shaffer's connection to the Hathaways was, and all he could tell me was that they were connected in some way but he didn't know how.
I then took it upon myself to try to find a Hathaway somewhere among John Shaffer's descendants using Descendancy View. An hour of searching later, I still haven't found any mention of a Hathaway.
While I'm a little exasperated that someone tagged a memory with the names of over a hundred people who are not actually in the memory - and did not explain their connection - I'm not here to complain about that.
Rather, I'd like to ask if there's any shorter, easier way to find a specific person or surname among descendants instead of painstakingly clicking through the family tree for an hour. FS has a lot of nifty tools, and I'm sure I'm still unaware of some of them despite using the site for years.
Thanks in advance!

As an aside ...
.
Just a thought ...
.
IF, you have not already; THEN, ...
.
IF, your "Ancestral Lines" in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' were extensive enough (ie. went back through many generation); THEN, if you are lucky and all the connections/links are there ... and, you have not already ...
.
You could always try (BYU) "RelativeFinder" ...
.
(BYU) "RelativeFinder" digs (pun intended) a lot DEEPER in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch', than 'FamilySearch' does.
.
(BYU) "RelativeFinder" is one of the "Third Party" Applications that "Certified" to work with "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
.
BYU = Brigham Young University, in Provo, Utah, USA (ie. the Church University).
.
From the "Family History Technology Laboratory", of the "Computer Science" Department.

Here is direct link to "RelativeFibder"

.
There are many 'Bells and Whistles' that you might find useful in "RelativeFinder".
.
Give it a go ...
.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained ...
.
(BYU) "RelativeFinder" has some interesting options ...
.
There is an option to see if there is a 'Connection' between two (x2) "Deceased" individuals/person in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'
.
.
There is an option to see if there is a 'Connection' between ("Living" - Users/Patrons) Friends in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.
.
.
I hope this helps.
