Birth record of Mari Jorgensdatter, 10th birth down from the top of the page. I read:

Teft. Annum: Tretten, Goro Christensd: Glomes ? ?

22 March ? ? Mari

far Jorgen Lassesen Glome

 

I'm guessing this is an illegitimate birth, as all the other parents are listed as "father og mother".

You are right. After Glome's it says: illegitimate child born the 22 March, presented as child father Jørgen Lassesen Glome, both first copulation.

I'm curious about this Norgeskart you have referred me to. Is this a current mapping system for Norway? and if so, are these old farms actually still there, or are they just labeled on the map. I'd love to find all the old farms that my ancestors are from!

norgeskart.no is the current on-line mapping service for Norway. Most of the old farms are still there, but the buildings rarely date back that far. In some cases, developments have swallowed up the farms, but the names are usually still in existence. The names have evolved over time. The spellings in the records from the 17 and 1800's are the old Danish spellings. I have successfully documented and visited over 100 of my ancestor's farms, and it is very rewarding work. In instances where the farms are still owned by family members, I have met distant cousins.

The two main websites I use are norgeskart.no and norwayparishes.com. The latter requires correct current spelling, the former does not, but it will be easier to find your farm if you come close to the current spelling. Both sites used in tandem are very useful.
