Please add the following location to FamilySearch.

Cuijk, Noord-Brabant, Netherlands

Indeed, Cuijk was connected to the wrong province (Limburg).

I corrected that to Noord-Brabant (North Brabant in English).

This will save me a lot of work now, and in the future.

I also have a question.

Why are the provinces Noord-Brabant, Noord-Holland and Zuid-Holland translated into English?

My relatives in the Netherlands, that are working on our common tree, use the Dutch version, of course.

So, when I standardize the locations in these provinces, I try to be consistent.

However FamilySearch only lets me choose the English version.

It would be great if we could choose between the English version, and the Dutch version for these provinces.

The country in English is not a problem.

The provinces are available in several languages, for example, Noord-Brabant:

Nord-Brabant = German (de)

Brabante do Norte = Portuguese (pt)

North Brabant = English (en)

Brabante settentrionale = Italian (it)

Brabant-septentrional = French (fr)

Brabante del Norte = Spanish; Castilian (es)

Noord-Brabant = Dutch; Flemish (nl)

 

The standardization is always in English, but you can choose to enter any language.

Like the former village of Kralingen in this example: the display name of the Place is in Dutch, but the standardized version is in English:

That standardized version is used by the system for checks, comparisons, hints etc.

Yeah FamilySearch needs to change something so that people working with different languages of the site can see the place location (if it is standardized all the way) in their own language, and as a stretch challenge, be able to choose to show places in one language while having the rest of the site in another. (Like for me, I would like everything to be in English except the place names when I go to a Dutch profile.) I wrote a suggestion a while ago about this somewhat in the now defunct GetSatisfaction. I think I may make another post of it on Ideas lol so that the images are visible.

Thank you for the clear explanation.

I like using the standardized English version for the locations..

My relatives in the Netherlands are using the Dutch version.

Often, for example, for one person, you will see the birth location in English, the baptism, and death location in Dutch, and the residency location in English.

 

I have standardized a lot of the locations to English.

But, by doing that, I change the locations my relatives have entered, which I don't think is much appreciated on the Dutch end.

 

So, I would prefer being able to use the Dutch version for the provinces Noord-Holland, Zuid-Holland, and Noord-Brabant, without having to enter all the locations manually.

Well Mieke, as Jordi told you; the website doesn't fully support that yet. However, I am aware there are working on better support for the Dutch language (friend of mine is a translator and was vetted for the job).

 

Personally I use a tool called AutoHotKey to more easily append often used strings (like: ", Province, Country").
