Why is his name crossed off if he is not leaving?

He leaves at 1893 to Åhus sjömanshus, and then he comes back at 1895

Sjömanshus is not a parish, it was a institution for seamen, that took care of them and their families, when men were at sea.
And helped men to find jobs at sea.

So he doesn't show up on the records of immigrants leaving Sweden from household records. Since he is a seaman did he leave without the parish knowing?

Seamen were not immigrants. They worked on ships and their records were still on their home parish. If they left the ship abroad and did not tell anyone then the parish did not know about it. Occasionally seamen left their ship without a permission and they vanished from the system, often because they wanted to.

Thank you Heidi. That is very helpful. The funny thing is I did find him in the United states under the name Emil Fogelberg and then I think he changes his name to Nelson. I don't know why he would do that. It is not his fathers name.
