1869
6. born January 12th, baptised 13th
Pál, male, legitimate
Parents: János Jakab, master, RC, Mária Tomko, RC
Residence: Gálszécs house-number 261
Godparents: Antal Ritter, master, RC, Anna Barna, GC
Officiant: ditto (Antonius Strasser)
From context, it appears that this clerk used _mester_ "master" for any sort of craftsman or artisan (butcher, cooper, smith, cobbler, tanner, etc.).
Said clerk hadn't entirely made up his mind what language he was using; the page is half in Latin, and half in Hungarian, which accounts for all of the 'f's (half of them crossed out) in the "masculine" column. (_Férfi_ "man, male", _fiú_ "boy".)

Interesting, even with the house number they don't seem to be on the 1869 Census. Grrr. Thanks, Julia.

Lots of Annas, none of them anything like Dobranszki. There were definitely multiple John Jacobs in town, but I think maybe only one of them was a blacksmith?

Thanks, Julia
Sad news about the death of Zsuzanna and just a lucky find.
Hmmm, I will see if I can find any further info on my GGrandmother's brother John Jacob (Janos Jakob). He was defi born in 1879, and that's what is on the headstone. He past away back in 1956 and is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery, Lackawanna, New York with most of the family.
