Does anyone know if there are any types of documents that would name the father of a child born out
My grandmother, Catherine Mary Dobrowolska was born out of wedlock on December 24, 1899 in Majdan-Kolbuszowa, Prisemyil in the Austrian Empire. It is now part of Poland. Her mother was Mary Dobrowolska. She was christened on December 26, 1899 in the Prisemyil Diocese. The christening certificate does not list a father. It does list what I believe are godparents of Johannes Jabra and Marianna Dobrowolska. My grandmother and her mother emigrated to the US when she was two years old. Her mother married a John Ofsenka and thereafter, my grandmother was known as Catherine Ofsenka, though I don't believe she was ever officially adopted. Thanks.

I think this varies by country or region. E.g. in Hungary part of Austria-Hungary that time already was civil registration and I see some similar entry where next to original a note the father admitted to his own child and married with the mother.
The father would be a rich man or a landlord, or he was of a different religion.
I would check the immigration document as well.

My suggestion is to check the paper trail for Catherine... meaning look at every document you can. First, you say that you have the baptismal certificate. Is this the abstract? If so, you need to consult the original register for Majdan-Kolbuszowa (Przemyśl) to determine if the priest made any type of notations for the child.
Next, I would look to all domestic records created during her lifetime. It is important to remember that adoptions like you've described did not require a formal process for this time period.
Lastly, have you considered DNA testing to give you family matches which might have connections to Majdan-Kolbuszowa.
