How to find records of my great grandfather as a child
Thomas Smith b abt 1853 in Great Malvern, Upton or Worcester according to census records when he was married with his own family. I cannot find him in Census records prior to 1881. He married Phoebe Elizabeth Hodgkinson known as
Elizabeth, on 25 Feb 1880 in West Bromwich, Staffs and his marriage certificate states his father as James Smith, a grocer. Our family believes his shops to have been in Lancashire and were somehow lost from the family through the dealings of his solicitor. Thomas’s death certificate shows his death on 21 Feb 1917 aged 63, in Port Talbot. I’ve bought 4 birth certificates that are not his and traced lots of James Smiths to see if a) he was a grocer and b) did he have a son called Thomas around 1853. I’m now out of ideas and would really appreciate anyone’s thoughts on where to go from here.

Hi Brett, thank you for trying but I bought the birth certificates for both of those and father’s name doesn’t match. Also bought one for 1852, same area maiden name of mother is Curtis....again not my Smith. If anyone can claim these, I’ll willingly pass them on.
