I am searching for my 2nd great grandparents from the Azore Islands off Portugal. Antone Rodrigues
Her name could also be Maria Treza Ferreira or Perreira. The marriage certificate I saved says they were married 02 Sep 1889 in Santa Clara, California USA. But several of their children's birth records list her maiden name as Martin. Any help would be appreciated!

You will need to do more research in US records to be able to find the exact name of the hometown or at the very least the island that they came from. There are not any indexes that cover everyone in the Azores. If your ancestor is in the FamilySearch family tree, please post their ID number so I can take a look at what sources you have already gathered and make some suggestions. Feel free to tag me in your response so I don't miss it :-)

Hi Debbie,
I answered you yesterday from my phone but maybe i didn't know how to tag you so I will try again. Antone Rodrigues Dias ID number is M1ZN-QRJ and his wife, Maria Teresa Martin's ID number is M1ZN-QR5. The records I have show them both born in the Azores. Their son-in-law John Garcia (Joao Garcia Jorge) has an ID number of LCJ9-9LS. He was born in Madalena ****, Azores. Since so many Azore Island natives congregated in the San Jose/Santa Clara area of California, I have wondered if they were from the same island but I have no verification of that.
I phoned a couple of cousins of my father's last week but they have no records. They do have pictures that I am excited to see and record. I did see there are two Family History Centers in the Azores on the church website and wonder about what information they might have.
Any direction will help.
Thank you,
Lori Harris

Hello Lori,
I would recommend you start by seeing if you can find him in these records. http://www.worldgenweb.org/azrwgw/research-aids-a---l/fraternal-societies/upec-records.html You can learn more about these records here: http://www.worldgenweb.org/azrwgw/research-aids-a---l/fraternal-societies/ Have you been able to identify him on any passenger lists? It looks like dad may have come first and his son joined him later. You could look for both. You may also want to try to see if you can find an obituary in the Portuguese newspapers. Here's a link to that. https://www.lib.umassd.edu/paa/portuguese-american-digital-newspaper-collections I hope this helps. If you need more ideas after you've looked at these, let me know.
