How do I find a Marriage Record, whenever I search it will only show me Baptism records. thank you

I have found that most marriage records are not indexed and will not come up in a search.
However, you can search in the city you looking at through the "Images Search" and they will show all records, whether they are indexed or not. The marriages will be in there.

Also be sure to check the parish/town in the catalog since not everything is available under the "images" search. https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog

Thanks for the tip. Now that I have narrowed it down by the year that is on the 1869 Census, how can I determined which of the below is the Joannes Uhrin I am searching for? I still can't seem to locate a marriage record between Joannes Uhrin and & Anna Sztaruch (1832). What other type of record could provide this information?

Cherie, you have to page through the parish records to get to the marriage records since they aren't indexed yet.
There's a possible match for the marriage entry for your couple dated 2 February 1852. (4th entry on the left side of the page) The groom is 21 and the bride is 20 and it looks like both are from this same place originally. It was the first marriage for both of them. No parents are listed. -- https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-68K3-54S?i=400&cc=1554443&cat=758424

Camille, great detective work but unfortunately nobody that I know can translate this record since it's written in Slovakian. How does indexing work? Can this record be indexed?
You have been a great help, and thank you!!

Hi Cherie!
The document is actually written in Russian.
Camille has already done an excellent job of extracting the important details from the document.
Indexing is a long process and it could be years before records from this parish are indexed. You can read more about the indexing process here.
In the screenshot below, I've attached a screenshot with the surnames of the bride and groom highlighted in yellow. The groom's surname is the first one. The bride's surname carries onto the next line. You can search for these surnames in the church books (page through the images one by one) just by matching the shapes of the letters. Once you find your surnames, you can then post a link to them here or in the Russian Empire Genealogy group on the Community to ask for a translation.

Hi Ellie, and I was not expecting that at all. Could you please try re-posting those screenshots again? I do not see them attached to your reply. A huge thank you to Camille and yourself in your diligence and support in helping me.

Thanks, Ellie.
Quick question, why is it written in Russian and not Hungarian or Latin?

Cherie, that's a good question and one that I'm not sure I can completely answer. Some of the other records for this parish are in Latin or Hungarian, but it seems there was a period of time where they were recorded in Russian. The area looks like it was never a part of the Russian empire, so that wouldn't be a reason why.
My best guess is that it was just up to the preference of the parish priest, but who knows!

Are we sure it's in Russian and not Ruthenian or Church Slavonic? Greek Catholic records were often in one of those languages. Ruthenian or Rusyn is related to Ukrainian, and was the native language of a lot of Greek Catholics in northern Hungary, and Church Slavonic was kind of like the Latin of the Eastern Rite church.

Good suggestion Julia! I took a second look at the FS catalog entry which states it is in Russian. Looking at the document, I am fairly certain that it's Russian. It's written in the Cyrillic alphabet and the column headings provide good clues with with words like:
Имена - name
Лет возраста - age
место - place
месяц и день - month and day
брак - marriage
Состояние - position/standing
Ruthenian looks more like this:

Fascinating, and thank you!!

A review of the entries prior to the 1851 marriage provide many examples of Church Slavonic, not Russian entries for this Greek Catholic church in the Kingdom of Hungary. I find it highly unlikely the priest would have used Old Russian based on the geographic location of the parish.

Hi Michelle, and thank you for your input on the information that I am looking for. So over my head on all of this, and should I some how be able to locate any other possible matches/records, is there someone that will be able to determine the language and be able to translate? 😃
