Has anyone noticed their ward and family history consultants listed as Group Admins in Indexing portion of Family Search? Is this something that "comes" with the calling and we are not aware? The consultants may or may not have been trained in indexing so having them as a group admin could be overwhelming to say the least. I have contacted my ward clerk; he did not enter them; and I have opened 2 cases with Family Search to no avail...Any help is appreciated.

Here's a question for you. If someone hasn't read the Book of Mormon, can he convincingly bare testimony to it? Operative word is "convincingly." Same with family history. One can preside over it as a leader, but he'll never get the full help and force of the Spirit of Elijah unless he does his own fh work, even a little bit, And that's my testimony of the power of the Spirit of Elijah.

I agree 100%. My first advice to a newly called Temple and Family History Leader would be to arrange for a one-on-one discovery experience with a Temple and Family History consultant. In fact, our Area Temple and Family History consultant just passed on a challenge from our Area Authority that every member of each stake or ward council should also have a one-one-one experience with a consultant. They need to have or being working to develop an understanding and a testimony of the work. That does not mean, however, that they need to be an expert. Just as someone, even a child or a newly baptized member, can bear strong testimony of the Book of Mormon without being a doctrinal expert or being able to quote 100 verses, a Temple and Family History Leader can inspire and lead without being a Family History guru. My concern is that many (not necessarily anyone on this post, but in general over the past several weeks in a variety of forums) Temple and Family History consultants seem to feel that unless someone can teach the ins and outs of Family Search, Ancestry, and several other tools, they shouldn't be a Temple and Family History Leader. That is not the case.

I have reached out to the indexing team for clarification.

Could you please send me a copy too? christinekforbes@gmail.com I know I'm a month late in finding this post. How is the training going in your stake now? I feel like after seeing the handbook 2 changes my duties as a Stake TFHC are up to the High Councilman over TFH work. But, I'm waiting for a new one to be assigned and in the meantime I'm training R.S. reps, EQ reps, FHL and ward TFHC as needed and it would be interesting to see what you did to train the Stake President and High Council. Thanks!

While the Family History Leader or EQP Counselor, depending on the structure of your ward, would be responsible, that does not mean they do the training. This is where you can come in and offer to train a few or a group as your leader or EQP counselor directs. Suggest a small group first (I selected all those involved in ward council), then ask to have activity classes with each of the groups.
Remember, this is new for most of the Priesthood leaders who were glad to have us (Stake Temple & Family History Consultants) take control and train. Now they, who are not as familiar with navigation, etc, are responsible for all of it so they are overwhelmed as well.

Being a support to ward temple and family history leaders is the great gift a stake temple and family history consultant can give. Be sure to meet with them and have conversations about what their ward goals are and how you can help them achieve them. They may request your help for onboarding newly called consultants, they may ask for suggestions of what other wards have included in their ward temple and family history plan, they may ask any number of things. As both of you seek inspiration, allow the leader to lead, and support the ward's goals miracles can occur and hearts can turn.
