Mr. Shaber; You can also search all the Merchant Marine records we have available in FamilySearch. Click on 'Search' in your FamilySearch home page, then click on 'Catalogue'. Next click on 'subjects' and enter "Merchant Marine" (include quotes) and click 'search'. There you can access all the Merchant Marine records we have. I hope this was helpful.

His was born Sidney S Weill but he changed his surname to “DeWeel.” I don’t know when he changed it. He was born 4 April 1899 in Cincinnati Ohio. According to his prison record, he served in the Merchant Marines in the year 1918-1919. Thank you for your help. He left when my mother was two years old and she would never talk about him as at that age, she didn’t really know him.
