Feedback on chromeOS flex
Since the FamilySearch Feedback tab doesn't work in chromeOS flex I am stating here some recommendations or questions
- Why was the Screen Capture in the App Launcher but now is not. I think it would be better there rather than the System Launcher. Then pinned to the Shelf.
- Add bookmarks for Ancestry.com, myheritage.com, findmypast.com, etc. so patrons can have easier access and use their own accounts.
- Please add a calculator app or extension.
- How are we going to be able to use Rootsmagic etc. on chromeOS?
- Please fix the feedback tab so we can more easily give input as we are adapting to this change

I think I may have posted the following earlier when I asked about the standalone genealogy programs and I researched back in January 2024 the status of the three standalone programs that were authorized updated and site-licensed for all FamilySearch Centers under Microsoft OS. The response I got from support then was everyone will have to get used to bringing storage (thumb drives or other devices) and downloading info from the Chrome OS Flex boxes and porting that data to their own non-Chrome OS Flex systems. Is there an update from FamilySearch support? I was told there were three FamilySearch Centers used as beta-sites and mine was not one of them. I was also told all FamilySearch Centers would be brought over to Chrome OS Flex by the end of the year (2024).
My issues with Chrome OS Flex were drivers for the Epson devices and the other stuff listed in the digital conversion equipment section shown on FamilySearch. Did those ever get ironed out or will our analog-to-digital devices become boat anchors - because nobody asked the question?
Chrome OS Flex is not intended for use on professional systems. Which begs the question…

Works with CodeWeaver’s CrossOver (not an emulator) under ChromeOS for $74.00 per workstation. CodeWeaver does not do site licenses.

Legacy runs on Linux machines with a Windows emulator like VMWare or Sun's Virtual Box.

LINUX: Currently there is no version of Legacy for a Ubuntu/Linux system. This is something we may consider for the future. In the meantime, Legacy runs on Ubuntu/Linux with CrossOver software or VMWare or Sun's Virtual Box installed. For more information please see the Ubuntu forum at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=452675 (requires registration). There are a few known problems with Legacy on a Linux machine including an unrecognized media path message each time Legacy is started, but if you click the error, it opens Legacy just fine. If you do have a problem with Legacy on a Linux machine and this problem is caused by the Windows emulator or the Linux machine we here at Legacy support may not be able to help as we do not support Linux.
CodeWeaver’s Crossover 22.1.1 runs Legacy 9 under ChromeOS

Basically, RM9 will work after a fashion under Wine/Linux using winetricks
CodeWeaver’s CrossOver 14.1.1 ran all previous versions of RootsMagic
