Kruglarie Magid Russia.
My Paternal Grandmother Dora Sawalkin came to the United States in 1913 from Russia. She traveled to Quebec Canada and then to Huran Michigan. In 1915 she married my grandfather, Isadore Lipsitz. In 1920 she had a breakdown and was put in Ann Arbor Mental institution. Later she was moved to Eloise Hospital in Detroit Michigan. On the Eloise records her father was listed as Abraham or Israel Sawalkin. Her mother was listed as Rachel Degenoff. She spent her life there until her death in 1980. All the researchers I consulted said without knowledge of her birthplace, research in Russia was not possible. Finally I found a passenger card and her birthplace was listed as Kruglarie Magid Russia.. I consulted my Russian researcher and he said “ I suspect it refers to Kruhlaye or Krugloe (Belarusian: Круглае, romanized: Kruhlaje; Russian: Круглое, romanized: Krugloy , a town in Mogilev Region, Belarus. It serves as the administrative center of Kruhlaye District. In the 19th century it was located in the Russian Empire, Mogilev Governorate.” “Records for shtetl Krugloe didnt preserve well at all. There are NO censuses of Jewish population, no metric records, no family lists. There are some draft lists, some tax payers records, some property ownersrecords, some records related too court filings. Records preserved very randomly. Research can be done, but I do not anticipate good results.” Has any one done research in this area who might have suggestions. I did ask my researcher to do some research for me.
