Translation Please-1920 Marriage record Szczeglice Poland - Michael Smit & Margaretha (Pęclawice)
I have a marriage record in Metryki.Genbaza, Sandomierz Archive, parish of Szczeglice that I'm hoping someone could transcribe and translate. It is number 53 on the document - marriage of Michael Smit & Margaretha Kurcowna (maybe Kurz). They are germans living in Pęclawice, a neighboring village.
My direct ancestor is one of the Witnesses, Konrad Laubenstein - I believe it says he is 46 years old. Half of his children married individuals with surname Schmidt from this same town - so I'm trying to put together the german Smit/Schmidt family in Pęclawice.
Thank you very much for your help.
Best regards,
Susanne

Marriage Record No. 53, Szczeglice, the Priest of Szczeglice Parish acting as Officer of Civil Records Office Gmina Szczeglice, District Staszow, Wojewodztwo Sandomierz, dated the 12th April 1820, of Michal Smit, a German, tenant farmer from village Wólka Łaziska, he is 20 years old, according to the copy of his birth record from the books of Polaniecki (Kolonia Połaniec) Church, he lives with his father Michal Smit, a German, in Wólka Łaziska, and of Malgorzata Kurcowna (daughter of Kurc ?), showing by the statement of those who know her, issued in Peace Court of Staszow, dated the 16th March 1820, she stays with her guardian, brother-in-law, Jakob Smit, a German, who is tenant farmer in Pęcławice. The parties ask us to perform the marriage, whose 2 Marriage Banns were posted on the door of our town hall. When no impediment was detected to this marriage, and the parents give permission for this marriage, responding to the request of both parties, after reading all the above mentioned documents and the Section 6 of the Title Code of Napoleon about Marriage, we asked the future husband and the future wife, if they want to be united in marriage, and each one of them individually responded that such was their will. We therefore pronounce in the name of law that Michal Smit and a maiden, Malgorzata Kurcowna, are united in marriage. We have written this marriage record in the presence of Michal Smit’s father, who is 67 years old, resident of Łaziska, Jan Jberle, 36 years old, Konrad Laubensztain, 46 years old, and Ludwik Bekier, 34 years old, the last three tenant farmers from Pęcławice. This record was read to those who presented themselves before us and it was signed by us and by the witnesses. Signatures of Michael Schmidt, Ludwig Bekier, and Konrad Laubenstein.
Please note that using pilot.pl which is equivalent to mapa.szukacz.pl you may find two places named Połaniec and Kolonia Połaniec. The one named Kolonia Połaniec seems a lot closer to Szczeglice. Please use Polish version of the map, as otherwise the names of villages and towns will be also translated into English. X the advertisements, find “hotele” and click on “ukryj” to eliminate all the H’s which are hotel advertisements. Enter the name of place, e.g. Pęcławice, select it, then click on the place on the map, then move the mouse to Szczeglice without pressing on it, to find the distance between them in the red box in the right lower corner of the page. Use circles on the right to zoom in and zoom out on the map. Enjoy your research adventure.

Maria, this is amazing! Thank you so very much for this. I love that they tell ages of people in so many cases because it does a lot to confirm connection to other records! I super appreciate all your help here. I'm going to Poland in the fall to see these places in person, and I just wish I could take you along with me! :)
Sending you very best regards,
Susanne
