Need for compacter and faster source linker to address performance issues
The performance and screen usage of the new source linker is poorer than the classic source linker, hence an option for a faster and compacter source linker is highly appreciated.
My main involvement is in Germany/Netherlands 1600-1850, which implies families with 10+ children and often incorrect family relations in the tree (same names are used for generations and among siblings owing to high infant mortality, records are incomplete).
For this domain the new source linker went for fanciness at the cost of functionality and speed.
Changes like a move of a source take seconds to get updated in the GUI. Seconds might sound 'fast' but is typically considered unacceptable for GUIs and the user experience. hence, in my opinion unworkable for serious activities.
Moreover, it seems all fields are more spacious, e.g. bigger 'pictures' which are not existing for that time frame, flags to mark differences which are not that meaningful. Hence, to get a similar overview I need to reduce the zoom to 75% which is then affecting the viewing of other pages.
Therefore, it is highly appreciated if we can get a 'light' setting for the source linker that switch off all fanciness and provides a fast and compact user interface similar to the old interface.

I fully agree. The animated action is time-consuming, it takes more time to align items to get them to 'Latch' and the incessant up/down scrolling makes the whole process slower than it needs to be; although it can be made quicker if you use a programmable trackball combined with keyboard shortcuts and three hands [not available to tablet users]

Example of unwanted time-consuming feature: When attaching a spouse in a family group census record, the new linker opens the section for the children. It does so gradually with animation. After performing the 'Wiggle and Wait' manoevre to get the spouse to latch and change background colour and then attaching the spouse, the linker then closes the section for the children, again gradiually and with animation. This not only causes delay, it means that the animated process of opening the children section has to be repeated to attach the children. I find this tedious.
